Mumbai: Unsatisfied with Govinda''s performance, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee has recommend the name of rebel Samajwadi Party member and Bollywood actor Raj Babbar to contest from North Mumbai Lok Sabha constituency or from Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh.
Reports claim that MPCC has written a letter to central command for fielding Raj Babbar from Mumbai North constituency. The decision on this matter will be finalised soon, sources say.
Raj Babbar is facing heat from his nearest SP rival Prem Kumar Parmar from Fatehpur Sikri constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party has already announced Prem Kumar Parmar's name from Fatehpur Sikri. In such conditions, it may be difficult task for the actor-turned politician to retain his seat from Fatehpur if Congress and SP fail to make alliance in the state.
However, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee feel that party high command should field Raj Babbar from Fatehpur as the veteran actor has a mass appeal and stands a good chance of sailing through.
Govinda is sitting MP from Mumbai north constituency. He had defeated senior BJP leader Ram Naik in the 2004 general elections.
Sources say that Govinda has termed this as a conspiracy by some BJP and Congress leaders.
