Bangalore: While the self-styled custodians of Indian culture, Shri Ram Sene activists have already initiated their activities against V-Day celebrations in Karnataka by issuing letters to hotel owners, principals of the colleges, student representatives, and greeting cards and gift sellers.
Furthermore, flower vendors as well as to wardens of the both boys and girls hostels are being told to guide the students not to celebrate V-Day for the sake of Indian culture.
But, on the other hand, the police and some intellectuals have made statements for the hassle-free V-Day and organizing protests against the high-handedness of Shri Ram Sene activists.
"Ours is a multi-racial, multi-lingual, multi-cultural, multi-religious nation. Our Constitution has guaranteed the right to every individual or association to observe their own cultural norms, languages, observe their religions, subject to the condition that such observance will not violate any provisions of law,''' the Bangalore police commissioner said on Sunday.
“Through Gandhian means, we will demonstrate our condemnation of attacks on women and attempts to impose curbs on freedom of speech and expression in the name of culture,” said IIM-B Professor Rajeev Gowda Gowda said and called out to people to join hands and form a human chain to protest against the moral policing.
