SC defers RCA polls to March 1, Modi happy

Mumbai: The Supreme Court on Friday deferred the forthcoming Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections to March 1 and ordered the appointment of former high court judge N M Kasliwal as observer for the elections.

A bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam ordered that the elections would be held as per the old unamended constitution of the association of Feb 11, 2005.

The bench passed the order on a plea by RCA president Lalit Modi, who alleged that he had no faith in the officials holding the election as per the amended constitution. He had sought the apex court's intervention to ensure a free and fair election.

Modi said: 'My stand gets vindicated. All the illegalities done by the other group by changing the constitution have been set aside by the Supreme Court. I'm extremely happy.'
