Lucknow: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will confer a doctorate degree on music maestro A R Rahman, who created history by becoming the first Indian to bag two Oscars, varsity officials said on Wednesday.
"We have decided to celebrate Rahman's Oscar victory by presenting him the doctorate degree at the upcoming annual convocation to be organised on the campus on March 25," AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar said.
The decision to award D Lit (Honoris Causa) has been taken by the varsity's executive council. According to AMU officials, the varsity has also decided to confer the honorary degree on Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata Group, professor M S Swaminathan, father of green revolution and noted Urdu writer professor Gopichand Narang at the convocation.
