New Delhi: Indisciplined MPs, who disrupted the Lok Sabha, were insulting the public and did not ''deserve a single paisa' in allowances, a furious Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said and warned he would adjourn the house sine die on Thursday.
'You are insulting the people of the country and wasting public money. You do not deserve even a single paisa. You are behaving in a condemnable manner,' Chatterjee said as chaos prevailed in the Lok Sabha.
'You don't deserve any allowances,' the speaker went on. 'I think this house should be adjourned sine die. This is the only way to save public money.'
Soon after the day's proceedings began at 11 a.m., MPs of several parties gathered near the speaker's podium protesting over various issues and forcing the speaker to adjourn the house at 11.15 a.m.
Chatterjee's protestations had little impact on the parliamentarians who continued their protests when the proceedings resumed at noon and Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, who was then chairing the session, adjourned the house for another two hours.
While MPs of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were protesting against the SC/ST (reservation in post and services) Bill 2008, MPs from MDMK and PMK demanded a stop to the war in Sri Lanka. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs created an uproar over the Satyam Computer Services scam.
