Pakistani authorities have offered to introduce Islamic law in Swat and the surrounding region if militants agree to lay down their arms.
Security forces are also holding their fire.
Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said Tuesday that the militants' cease-fire has been extended indefinitely. It was due to expire on Wednesday.
