Dalits storm AP assembly, 27 arrested

Hyderabad: In a major incident, Dalit agitators here on Wednesday stormed into the Andhra Pradesh assembly demanding categorisation of scheduled castes in the state.

To everybody's surprise, members of Madiga Reservation Porta Samiti community managed to climb the assembly by showing visitors' pass and barged into the ministers' chambers raising slogans against chief minister YS Reddy for delaying the proces of SC categorisation.

The police so far has rounded up 27 activists on the pretext security issue, city police commissioner B Prasada Rao said.

The incident occured after the House meeting for the Budget session was adjourned for the day.

Some other activists locked themself up inside the chambers of ministers including Home Minister K Jana Reddy before they were overpowered.

The security personnel opened the ventilators of the rooms to get inside and brought the protestors out and whisked them away.
